AFIR Center
AFIR's mission is to promote the role of honey bees and wild pollinators in ecosystems, and highlight their importance in preserving our rich biodiversity.
In doing so, we aim to create income generating activities for the residents of Saidoun and the neighboring villages.
AFIR is located in the little village of Saidoun (Jezzine caza) and occupies the oldest stone house there, the only one to have survived the devastating 1956 earthquake.
Beekeeping
Managed by SOILS Permaculture Association Lebanon, the center proposes tours, workshops, learning activities, beehive visits and nature walks to introduce visitors of all ages to the wonders of nature and the world of bees and pollinators.
Amateurs can also register for our advanced beekeeping apprenticeship program.
Our activities and services aim to raise awareness about environmental issues and the importance of bees in natural ecosystems, in addition to promoting beekeeping as an income-generating occupation.
Honey and natural products
In collaboration with local beekeepers, the center proposes high quality honey produced locally and free of any additives.
In addition to honey, AFIR proposes other natural hive products: wax, propolis, etc., as well as aromatic herbs, essential oils, preserves and more, all sourced and processed locally.
Traditional and recycled crafts
AFIR works with local artists and artisans to revive traditional handcrafts and create a line of nature and bee-themed items and gift ideas.
This contributes to encouraging local talents and creating income-generating occupations for the residents of Saidoun and nearby villages.
